Rachel Dykstra, CPA/PFS

Rachel graduated from Boise State University, Magna Cum Laude, in 2004 with double majors Accounting and Finance, and a minor in Mathematics. Her professional experience started with internships with Merrill Lynch and the Idaho State Tax Commission. Upon graduation Rachel was recruited to Eide Bailly, LLP (one of the largest regional CPA firms in Idaho), while at Eide Bailly she became a licensed CPA. Rachel worked on the audit side of Public Accounting, while providing tax support during the tax season, to become a well -rounded CPA.

On top of her normal work load she was also in charge of the Boise office’s transition to a new paperless workpaper and audit software, where she worked with the vendor, Wolters Kluwer/CCH, to implement the software, and train the office on its use. She did such a great job that CCH poached her to become a training and implementation specialist. Rachel traveled the country helping CPA firms implement this paperless audit strategy.

After several years on the road, CCH started development of a new product, and because Rachel spoke both Accounting and IT, they asked her to become the liaison between the content authors, and the IT assets that made the project work. This new position was as a contractor and while interesting allowed for gaps in workflow, not being able to sit idle, Rachel started picking up tax and bookkeeping clients.

As the project became a sell-able software suite Rachel’s need on the project lessoned incrementally, allowing her to pick up more and more clients, and provided the perfect segue into running her own firm, ten years and still and growing. Rachel loves teaching her clients the power of QuickBooks and other accounting software and providing solid tax planning and compliance.

In her off time Rachel enjoys just about anything outdoors with her three dogs, specifically fishing and week-long rafting trips.

Scott

A first-generation college graduate, Scott earned degrees in Political Science and Linguistics, With Honors, from the University of California, Davis, in 2012. In September 2012, he enlisted in the US Army, completed Basic Training, Airborne School, and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, and served three more years as an infantry mortarman in the 1st Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.

After being honorably discharged, Scott and his wife, Dawn, owned and operated a franchised art studio, Painting with a Twist, for three years in Pleasant Hill, Ca. It was their first business ownership adventure, and they enjoyed the experience immensely. Scott completed most of the build out himself (with some not-so-little help from friends and family), and it was also his first in-depth exposure to the world of accounting and bookkeeping. After the sale of their business in 2019, he decided to use his GI Bill to return to school for an accounting degree, which he completed in 2021 through Colorado State University.

Since joining River City Accountants, Scott has been further developing his tax preparation, bookkeeping, and financial review skills, and is planning to earn his CPA certification by the summer of 2023.

Outside of work, Scott and his family spend most of their time camping, rock climbing, or on home improvement projects.
